LNEC, founded in 1946, is a public research institute dedicated to S&T, encompassing the various fields of civil engineering (the main scientific core) and related scientific areas, including social sciences. The scope of its activity includes public works, infrastructures, housing and urban planning, hydraulics and water resources, transportation, environment and construction materials. These joint capabilities allow the preparation and implementation of multidisciplinary approaches to complex problems, as the broad field of urban territory, coastline and environment. LNEC assist the Government in the pursuit of public policies, and providing technical support to the Public Administration. Its main objectives are safety and quality of the works, protection and rehabilitation of the natural and built heritage, technological innovation in the construction, water and environment sectors. LNEC has conducted several studies and consultancies (for public & private, national & foreign entities), and has been establishing national and international networks and partnerships in many research and dissemination projects funded by the EU and other international funding agencies. LNEC faces a number of challenges and opportunities that require strategic long-term responses. Work-force: ca. 450 of which half are university graduates and 30% are PhDs often with management capacities and experience. LNEC has the ability to promote and foster the globalization of Science and Knowledge.
